The Institute for Cross Disciplinary and Complex Systems (IFISC, UIB-CSIC) organizes its first Colloquia of Excellence (http://colloquia.ifisc.uib-csic.es/en), a cycle of lectures with leading scientists in Complex Systems: Luc Steels, Benjamin Carreras, Jordi Bascompte, Dan Gauthier and Carlo Beenakker.
The Colloquia of Excellence will deal subjects such as language, biodiversity and ecology, management of electrical networks or computing and physics from the point of view of the complex systems. Conferences are open to everyone interested and all of them will be held in the IFISC seminars room (“Aula Montserrat Casas”). In addition, they will be broadcasted in streaming through www.ifisc.uib-csic.es/seminars.
The first Conference will be on April the 13th with Luc Steels (Universitat Pompeu Fabra, CSIC) «language as a complex adaptive system». Benjamin Carreras (BACV Solutions Inc, USA) on May the 4th will speak about "the electric grid and the risk of large cascading blackouts". The next speaker will be Jordi Bascompte (University of Zurich, Switzerland), on May the 11th “plant-animal mutualistic networks: the architecture of biodiversity" who will be followed by Dan Gauthier on June the 15th (Ohio State University, USA) with a lecture about “Dynamics of autonomous time-delay Boolean networks”. The Colloquia of Excellence will finish on July the 6th when Carlo Beenakker (Leiden University, Netherlands) will present "Majorana edge modes in topological superconductors”.
This Colloquia of Excellence is possible thanks to the funding of the Government of the Balearic Islands
